Emo!
*Attn: this is a funny post: all pictures displayed are for entertainment purposes only. the blogger actually looks very handsome in real life.
Read on the media recently about teenagers who cut themselves with pen knives, who fall into a sort of oppressive-deppressive-obsessive kind of mental state, and write morbid poetry about death and how life is meaningless/worthless/suffering/*insert choice of negative adjective. Interestingly the writer of said article attributes this sort of behavior to a particular subculture called "EMO".
"Emo" - according to Wikipedia.Org states that:-
The term emo originated in the 1980s to describe a genre of music stemming from the hardcore punk music scene in Washington, D.C. Early bands labeled emo (or sometimes emocore) in this scene included "Rites of Spring", "Embrace", and "Fugazi".The term emo as a music genre has become broader and broader with time, and now is loosely understood to mean "rock music with emotionally-based lyrics or effect." Bands included in the genre range from "Bright Eyes" to "The Get Up Kids" to "Sunny Day Real Estate". The term is so loosely defined because its definition is still the subject of debate. Emo now often refers to a person's fashion, personality, or both, as well as the music genre."this term is commonly associated or tagged with Particular genres of music or bands, as a particular form of Fashion. It's been enjoying increasing popularity lately amongst youth, due to marketing and media. Simply put, i've observed that the term is probably getting trendier amongst youths today, something that's been heard on lips, seen in posed photographs. Something that's become Fashionable and "in" and we're seeing alot of emulating. You wear a certain thing and that's "Emo", you say certain stuff and it's "Emo", do your makeup in a certain way and it's really "emo". etc etc There's an implication that the "Emo" subculture involves melancholic, cynical and fatalist behavior or EMOTIONS so sometimes they get drawn into what they feel is an approprate behavior and mentality to go with the fashion. that's where you get the pen knives and stuff.
But it just makes one wonder, do they really know what emo is all about? Does it really make a good role model or are we simply victims of fashion? Doing it just cos everyone else is? Do we really know the meaning to what we get ourselves into? It's a scene that's been played out time after time after time in Singapore, From the Punk movement in the 80's to the Hardcore and "Str8 edge" in the 90's to the "sk8ter" and "bboys" in the 20's and now we have "emo-*insert label".
Dude! Do you even have a clue to where these came from and what they mean!?You mean to be "emo" is just to dress like the part? Our 2 models, "Emokia" and "Mdm Emo"
Emo fashion is usually defined to have roots in punk fashion as well as gothic fashion By almost all current definitions, emo clothing is characterized by tight jeans on males and females alike, long fringe (bangs) often brushed to one side of the face, dyed black hair, tight t-shirts, studded belts and belt buckles... So if You dress the Part, You're "EMO"?
Or is it Emo if you play the right kinda emo music??

Really...So if i'm "Emo", Then that means i must appear to be melancholic and stuff right? cos is just so cool to be angsty and depressed. yeah...So we throw in the "emo" and let's all write some "emo" poetry and songs!
Then Let's Just do it all the way! no point being a Fad follower right? where's the realness!? you gotta Walk the talk in your daily life!
Eat drink Emo
Cooking can get really emotional, and no it's not the onions.
Speaking of onions, even Going to the Loo can be "EMO" one, dont you know?Yeah! Live the Life of a Real True blue(Pun not intended) EmoKia! Share it with your friends and Family and help Spread the movement!
WHAT THE GOAT RIGHTTTTT!!??!?!?!

Why make things so complicated one!? Can't tight jeans just be tight jeans and eyeliner just be eyeliner!? why pple must die die put a label and stereotype!? And how come "Emo" Must Always mean Sad, morose and melancholic!? I mean, it's just "EMOTIONS" right!? So it cannot be One sided only, because happy, glad, joyful are also emotions wad... so if you want emo, then you better do it all the way.
Don't worry be happy! Be HAPPEEMO! Yay!!!Wouldn't that make you and your world a better place? And besides, it's less tiring to smile than frown cos it takes less muscles.. (there you go, aren't you feeling the relaxation of those tensed up facial muscles?)

Well, Just a take on how i feel about stereotypes. you can wipe the puke off your screen now thanks...This makes me feel how much our youth today are in need of a Role model. That can give them their esteem and see their worth, Allowing them to step up in Life. Loving them for who they are. I guess without saying we all know who that Ultimate Role model is. JESUS. At the cross He took your shame and sadness, And Given you His Joy as Your Strength. For our sakes he became the man of Sorrows so today you can rejoice in Him.His Stripes and Punishment on our behalf Gave us Peace or mind today. He is our Spirit of Power, Love and SOUND MIND (yes... after lookin at the photos some of you may think i need that.)
He was cut and He bled for us. We don't have to cut ourselves. We are beautifully and Wonderfully made. and He gave us His Righteousness as a Gift. Today You Reign in Life! He is FOR YOU, HE is IN YOU! HE IS HIGHER than your circumstance! HE LOVES YOU.
Christ in Us, the hope of Glory. His light shines through us today. So lets bring that Grace and Favour into the world. Let them See the Jesus Living in Us.
